The city of Salamanca in Spain is a very exciting place to visit. It is referred to by the locals as La Ciudad Dorada which means the City of Gold due to the colour of the many spectacular sandstone buildings that are quite unique to the area. One cathedral was built in the 13th century while the other one was buitl around the 16th century, partially on top of one another. From the rooftop you can enjoy panoramic views across the city so don't forget your camera to take some photographs of your visit. The lifestyle here is very laid back which transmits into friendly hotels, apartments, guest houses and hostels. Many hotels in Salamanca also have their own cafés lounges, restaurants and bars making them the ideal place to meet new friends and acquaintances.

You won't have far to walk from your hotel in Salamanca to the city centre to see art museums, entertainment venues, and the amazing Casa de las Conchas. The Casa de las Conches, the House of Shells opposite the city university, is decorated with decorative scallop shells providing a most unusual public library.
