Set on the northern coastline of the Spanish Balearic island of Majorca, Port d'Alcúdia has a great Mediterranean climate and just about everything needed for a lovely family holiday. The golden beaches stretch for 14km up as far as 'C'an Picafort', where there is a nature reserve, near the 'Playa De Muro' beach. This is a great way to enjoy a quieter day away from the lively atmosphere of the main resort. There's also a Marina where many day trips are on offer, as an alternative to spending the day in your hotel in Port d'Alcúdia. The entire beach also has the prestigious 'Blue Flag' award, which is a sure sign not just of a lovely beach, but a safe clean environment for children. However, Port d'Alcúdia isn't just about the coast, just behind the beach, there is the old Majorcan, stunning medieval walled town of Alcúdia. This not only provides a haven of pretty, winding, shady streets to enjoy, but some great shops, restaurants, cafés and historical sights to see. Take a walk through one of the imposing gates to the town, built by 'King Jaime I of Spain', and wander around the cobbled streets. Then take a look inside the peaceful, atmospheric, well preserved church of 'Saint Jaume', and you could almost imagine yourself transported back to the Majorca of the 14th century.
However, with a well developed, Majorcan, modern tourist industry, nearly all the hotels in Port d'Alcúdia are along the main beach. With so many hotels to choose from, standards are high, and many hotels are affiliated to travel agents, making booking a family deal easy. With families in mind, many mid range and four star hotels offer all inclusive deals and great buffet style catering which is a great idea for an easy holiday. There are also hotels which cater for adults only, great for enjoying a quieter more 'grown-up' atmosphere and evening entertainment schedule. With great local, Majorcan cuisine to enjoy along with a wide range of international cuisines on offer in the town, it's best to book these hotels on a half board or room only basis to make the most of your stay.
