Vera

Located in the province of Almeria and just just 10 kilometres from the Mediterranean coast, Vera is the perfect Andalusian getaway. The history of the municipality can be traced through the Romans, Carthaginians and Moors but, after a massive earthquake in 1518, the city was rebuilt on the site it currently occupies. Much of the architecture in the town, such as the fortified Church of the Encarnacion, reflects this period and this small, gated city hasn't changed a great deal in the last 500 years. If you're looking for hotels in the Old Town of Vera then the Hotel Terraza Carmona will give you fantastic access and fine Spanish cuisine.

However, most tourists heading to Vera go for the glorious beaches of the Hotel Vera Playa just a short drive from the Old Town. Brimming with cafés, bars and mouth-watering restaurants that run the length of this beautiful stretch of coastline, anyone looking to spend a relaxing holiday will find plenty of hotels and apartments within easy reach. Both the Apartamentos Parque Vera and the Hotel y Apartamentos Mexico are just minutes away from the golden sands and great nightlife typical of this part of Spain.

For around the last 20 years, Vera Playa has been a major centre for naturism. In fact, on November 7th 2013 a group of 729 naked swimmers broke the world skinny dipping record after invading a local beach. The event was organised by the mayor and the town of Vera, who proclaimed the record attempt a resounding success after they surpassed the previous record by more than 200 nude swimmers. The Apartamentos Vera Nature is one of a number of apartments complexes and hotels in Vera that are naturist friendly and the municipality also boasts the only exclusively naturist hotel in Spain – the Vera Playa Club Hotel. However, there is plenty of space in Vera for naturists and fully clothed tourists alike so you won't feel overdressed if you just can't let your bikini slip.
