Madeira is a dreamy place, especially when the cold falls over the rest of Europe. It offers dreamy landscapes, is steeped in history, welcomes tourists with excellent food and fine wines.

Ti Laura and Pica da Atalia are very nice restaurants for dinner. Ti Laura is more like a bistro, but the atmosphere is very nice. In both location are many local people.

Funchal
The town is very quaint and the Monte gardens are spectacular. Coming down the steep hill in a basket is so much fun - plus we went to a music concert at the English Church which was really enjoyable. There is so much to see in Madeira - we went in 2 trips one to the East side, which was more coastal and one to the West which was full of valleys and mountains. Both were exceptional and we saw loads of interesting scenery. The coastline is spectacular and the roads are very steep and winding. There is so much to see, I would recommend trips so you can enjoy the scenery without the stress of driving especially when its busy. The shopping is fabulous too- many things are cheaper than in the UK.
