Tavira
Located at the heart of Portugal's beautiful and sun-drenched Algarve region, Tavira is a wonderful place for a hotel stay or to rent an apartment. The town itself is a charming resort, with galleries like the Case das Portas, bars and restaurants aplenty. A visit to Ex Libris Gourmet is particularly recommended for the wine and food tasting sessions. Visitors can take boat trips to Tavira Island, which has long unspoiled beaches, while the Algarve coast offers fantastic beaches, golf courses, nature reserves (where the kids can enjoy watching flamingos in their native habitat) and activities like motor sports, horse riding, snorkelling and sea kayaking. Head inland to the historic town of Silves for a treat, and be sure to visit the fish market at Olhao for a taste of Portugese tradition.
Tavira is blessed with some excellent hotels, but there are some average places as well. For families looking to enjoy the sunshine by a luxury pool, the Cabanas resort hotel is a great option, with a great pool and easy access to the beach. For a smaller, more traditional hotel, try the Calcada guesthouse, where the owners serve up lovely breakfasts on a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea. Another way to stay in Tavira is with a rental apartment, and there are many fine properties available. A great place to start looking would be the Quintinha Apolo House apartment, with its own pool, located just 3 minutes walk from the seafront. Find an apartment that truly sets you and your family apart from the summer crowds, or travel out of season for what can be substantial savings.
Tavira is a fine destination and offers much more than just sunshine. For the kids, there are lively attractions like the Slide and Splash water park, and for adults, fine wines and great seafood. The Algarve is one of Europe's most welcoming beach regions, is heaven for golfers and motor sports enthuasiasts and nature lovers. From a hotel or apartment in Tavira, visitors can easily rent a car or hire bikes and explore the Algarve coast at their own pace.

Incredible countryside location
Incredible and peaceful countryside location with amazing views of hills, valleys, and the sea in the distance. Everything positive! Room should have a Smart TV and be larger for the size of the room. Breakfast could have more variety, mainly fruit and more vegetarian/vegan options such as soy yoghurt. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Picturesque and tranquil
Picturesque and tranquil. The center around the castle and the river is picturesque and pleasant, dotted with mansions and churches. There is tourism but it is not suffocating. The gastronomic offer is very complete. There are magnificent beaches around.

Far but worth it
Far, but worth it. It is about 35 minutes from the hotel, but the truth is that visiting the island of Tavira should be a must. The only way to get there is by boat; we took it at the estuary. The price is €2.5 for adults and €1.45 for children round trip. During the trip, they have a great time. Once on the island, you need to walk for about five to ten minutes if you are with kids to reach the beach. On this walk, you will pass by restaurants where you can grab something while enjoying nature.
