Faro
Faro in Portugal is a wonderful choice for a holiday and there is much to see and do. Faro is the gateway to the Algarve and from fabulous scenery to top golf resorts there's sure to be lots of interest for every age. Be sure to visit the Old Town where Faro Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace are both popular attractions. Take a water taxi to some of the beaches on the sandspit islands which form protection for the lagoon of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, or enjoy excellent local seafood dishes such as salt cod or try tapas in some of the great restaurants and bars. There are lots of hotels in Faro and the Algarve to cater to every taste and budget and you can even rent your very own holiday apartment in this friendly resort if you prefer to have your own space. With great shopping and a lively nightlife and entertainment scene, Faro is a terrific choice for a break.
For a hotel with wonderful views over Faro and the Ria Formosa nature reserve, the 4 star Hotel Eva is a good choice. It has its own pool but it's still nice and close to the beaches. Overlooking the marina and the Ria Formosa marshes, Hotel Faro is another nice 4 star selection. For those who prefer an apartment, there are some wonderful properties in Faro and you can book using an online apartment rental site, or directly from the owners. Hotel Ibis Faro is a good mid price option, and though it's a 20 minute walk to the centre of Faro from this 2 star hotel, it's clean and has a pool and service is very good for the price. Pousada de Faro Palace is a great luxury choice just outside the town and ideal for trips to the Algarve, while Hotel Adelaide close to the bus station is great for those on a budget. With a 24 hour bar and all day breakfast, everything you need is right there.
Whether you prefer a hotel in town or an Algarve apartment you can be certain that you'll find the perfect accommodation in Faro for you.

The "lighthouse" of the nightlife
The "lighthouse" of the nightlife. I thought I would find a small village, but instead I found a very large, touristy city with many places for nightlife. I recommend the Gardy patisserie to start the day well.

Sea and natural shows
Sea and natural shows. As said, Faro and the Algarve are expensive, however, it's worth visiting Ria Formosa and particularly Farol Island, the coast between Lagos and Albufeira is spectacular, to visit, especially by sea, and the wild and thrilling ocean views are unmissable.

Stay in Faro
Stay in Faro. Faro is an absolute must-visit destination. The city shines with its picturesque atmosphere, carefully maintained cobblestone streets, and small shops to dine and stroll throughout the day, in the shade or sun. Numerous boat excursions allow you to escape the city and enjoy the surrounding scenery. A refined cuisine served in an extraordinary setting. I highly recommend this jewel of the Algarve.

Lots to discover
Lots to discover. Faro is comparable with other, bigger cities in Portugal, located on the edge of Europe's mainland. The small city center can easily be walked through, surrounded by the airport, beautiful beaches, waterways, small islands, and luxury destinations in green decors. Ample shopping in 2 great shopping centers and even Ikea settled down just 10 minutes outside the city. Most of all, the local population must be complimented for their welcoming attitude to the foreign visitors. Mixed cultures are making Faro - and Loulé - easy going!

Lovely baroque town
Lovely baroque town. Definitely suggest the city tour as it offers hop on hop off all day. Lots to see from the marina to the old town to the wonderful gardens with peacocks to the market and more as shown in the photo. Very cheap and tasty restaurants. Definitely a must trip to add to your bucket list!

Small and beautiful place
Small and beautiful place to spend a few vacation days. Plenty of culture and beautiful beaches, even though you have to access by car or ferry. There is a nearby aquatic natural park.
