Il Relais Ducale represents a beautiful reality for the city of Gubbio. It enjoys a unique position in the lively heart of the medieval historic center. The structure is spread over several floors and areas within a historic palace. It also boasts outdoor gardens of various sizes equipped with all the comforts and accessories to relax and read a book or enjoy the tranquility of the place. The main entrance is on Piazza Grande and is accessed through the bar of the structure. Then there is a second entrance on Via Galeotti. On Piazza Grande, the hotel has tables and chairs where you can sip a good coffee or a small snack/appetizer. From the booking, there was excellent communication with the structure. Upon arrival, our suitcase was taken to the room by an internal staff member. We were greeted with kindness and sympathy by Signora Luana, who explained some things and provided information on parking and more, also handing us the map of the historic center. From there, we were accompanied to the reception for check-in where Signora Barbara was waiting for us. Kind, smiling, and attentive, she handed us the keys, took care of the necessary paperwork, and explained some things. Very importantly, we had the check-in at 2 PM, and since we arrived at 11 AM, they allowed us to settle in the room comfortably 3 hours earlier. A big applause. The room assigned to us was quite large, about 20 square meters, with an adjoining bathroom of about 5 square meters. The bed was very large and comfortable. The furnishings were very beautiful, antique style, which perfectly matched the terracotta floor and the medieval atmosphere that you breathe. Everything was clean, tidy, and fragrant. The room is equipped with a flat-screen wall-mounted TV, minibar (with bottles of water inside), numerous power sockets, desk, safe, additional pillows, extra blankets, thermostat for temperature regulation, lamp, curtains, WiFi, and bedside tables. The view from a double-hung window overlooked a small alley, and from there you could admire part of the facade of the Palazzo dei Consoli. In the bathroom instead, in addition to bidet, sink, and toilet, there was a bathtub, also used as a shower with a sliding screen for almost the entire length of the tub. There was a mirror, wall-mounted hairdryer, stool, and various towels, plus soaps, shower gel, hair caps, and a sponge for shoe cleaning. The bathroom, compared to the room, was a bit more dated and had some slightly neglected details like yellowed and outdated grouts and seals. It was equipped with a very large skylight but unfortunately not openable, neither manually nor with a remote. We asked the structure for information on how to air the bathroom and requested a pole and/or remote for two days, but in the end, nobody explained or provided what was requested. In short, we were forced to shower with the door open and the relative window to prevent the steam from making the bathroom floor slippery and dangerous. This was the only negative aspect. The heating was always functioning, and the room was always warm. Rest was very positive and relaxing. The bell tower with its voice did not bother us at all; on the contrary, it involved us in something. Breakfast was served buffet-style from 7 to 10 AM. The very kind Mariano or Signora Luana regularly greeted us with good morning, asking us and preparing the hot beverages we desired. Breakfast is another strong point of the Relais, the sweet beats the savory. Multiple types of cakes and tarts (at least 10), as well as cereals, jams, honey, spreads, small pastries, artisanal chocolate sacottini, empty croissants, milk, various types of bread, etc. The savory instead, besides eggs, had two or three types of cured meats and little else. I would have expected to find, considering the territory we were in, local products such as pecorino, truffle pecorino, crescia, pizzas, and focaccias of various kinds, etc. However, the breakfast is rated 10. What can I say, the soul of the Relais is made strong and pleasant not only by the location but especially by the kindness, spontaneity, and availability of the staff. Always present and always available. A sincere and grateful thanks to Luana, Moreno, and Barbara because they made us feel at home. Very positive stay, I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to visit the splendid city of Gubbio. Thank you.

Delightful breakfast in Piazza Grande across from Palazzo dei Consoli. Relais Ducale gave us all a taste of times gone by enjoying the garden next to Palazzo Ducale. A medieval dream. Thank you.
