The Greek Barcelona
The Greek Barcelona. The second largest city in Greece after Athens is worth a one or two-day visit. We chose it as the end of our journey through the mainland of the country. We rented a car in the capital and, after visiting Meteora, drove to Thessaloniki. We dedicated a day to its main monuments: the Rotunda and the Arch of Galerius, the White Tower, the archaeological museum, and especially the modern sculpture of the umbrellas (visit it at sunset). The next day we took a trip to Mount Athos, reachable by boat from Ouranoupolis. And in the afternoon, we left the car at the airport and flew to Crete, the only Greek island that has direct flights to Spain in summer. It was a perfect itinerary.
