City with modern and historic elements
Headquarter of Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. You shouldn't be a car fan and even can enjoy their visitor centers/museums. The city itself won't give too much, ex-industrial city without typical historical center. Oh yes, there are some old and new castles, churches in the old-town, but it won't give you an impression of being in a medieval age. It has modern district, like the library and the parks where the statues are rather futuristic and that could be enjoyed. Maultaschen is a food from this neighborhood to taste and obviously the local beers. Worth to visit for a long weekend even without visiting the villages, small towns near to it, like Esslingen an Neckar and Waiblingen. Those have fantastic old towns and both can be reached even by public transportation.
