What to see or do in and around Lille
Willem,
Lille (Norte)
Great city, friendly people, nice stores, good food. Pity that getting a breakfast on a Sunday morning is quite difficult.

Beautiful Buildings but Very Quiet
We were visiting Lille for a wedding, so had some free time to spend there over the weekend. The city has some beautiful architecture and buildings, and some interesting art. We enjoyed the Moss People art installation in the city centre. On the Saturday evening, the bars and restaurants were lively, and we visited a nice bar called Mother where the staff were very friendly and locals sat on tables along the pavement. Of all the cities Ive visited in my life, Lille is the quietest, which we werent quite prepared for. Most businesses apart from bars and restaurants were closed on Sunday and didnt open until late morning on a Monday. This made it a bit challenging during the heatwave, as there was little opportunity for respite from the sun. It also meant that we had little opportunity to truly experience the city and its sites, so werent able to get much of a sense of the ambience and culture. Also, due to the heatwave, the drains in the city smelt very bad, which was noticeable when walking around. Overall, we would struggle to recommend the city to other people, as too much of it was closed during our stay.
