What to see or do in and around Pau

Beautiful city but quiet at night
I find it a beautiful place, it has a spectacular balcony towards the Pyrenees, although it is a city you can see in two days. However, at 8 p.m., everything is completely closed. It is a totally different culture from ours. I missed the lively nightlife a lot. It is a beautiful city, but once is enough.

Pau: quiet city with impressive views
Pau is a quiet city with beautiful streets, but the most remarkable is its castle and the Boulevard des Pyrénées with its impressive views.

Experience in Pau
The castle of Pau is beautiful, it is very well preserved. The guided tour costs 7€ and is worth it. You eat wonderfully well and at a good price (duck confit, crepes,...) The pastry, bread, and cakes are delicious. On Sundays, almost everything is closed, except for the castle and some restaurants. The market stands out; it seems new and has stalls to enjoy food on-site.

A highly recommended destination
A highly recommended destination to spend the day with family or friends. For 24 hours, we have discovered and enjoyed this beautiful city in the Aquitaine region, uncovering a place that has captivated us all. The Pau Castle, the Boulevard of the Pyrenees, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Hedas neighborhood, the local products market... are some of the places we visited. Additionally, we strolled through the city's most emblematic parks and gardens, such as the Kofu Garden and Tissie Park, where the monument to the giants of the Tour de France, its winners, is located. The streets in the center are mostly pedestrian, allowing us to move throughout the day on foot without needing to drive, as the tourist sites are within a small radius and it is very easy to see everything in one day.

The view of Pau surprises
Pau. The view from the Boulevard towards the Pyrenees, the historic part of the city and the castle is amazing.

Visit to Pau
Visit to Pau. We took advantage of the August holiday to visit Pau and its region. The days felt short. France hides cultural treasures that we always love to visit. Romanesque, Gothic, nature, feelings, and sports. Beautiful churches and the cathedral of Lescar where the Kings of Navarre are buried. We had it all. We even got to see and enjoy a cesta punta game at Jai Alai. We had long wanted to visit the Gurs concentration camp, and this time we fulfilled our wish. Many emotions surfaced in us thinking about what all the people who were there suffered. Some of them are relatives of friends, which makes us feel even closer to reality. We also took the opportunity to make a stop in Orthez and marvel at its bridge and lake. We will return!
