Pas de la Casa

Set high up in Andorra, along the Spainish/French border, 'Pas de la Casa' is not only the highest ski resort in Andorra, but is also starting point for the Ariege river, and where the water from the Pyrenees begins to drain into the Atlantic. Literally, the name 'Pas de la Casa' means 'pass by the house' and refers to the single shepherd's hut which was all there was to mark what is one of the highest passes in Andorra. However, much has changed, and today, Pas de la Casa is a lively, fun, hip resort, which attracts snow boarders in particular and is well known for its party atmosphere, 'Aprés Ski' and nightlife, which is why a stay at a hotel in Pas de la Casa will be a perfect getaway. Set at 2,408 metres, it is also one of the highest places served by Europe's road network, and so is accessible, even though long journey times from the airport may put off families. With 31 ski lifts, 62 miles of piste and 2 square miles of ski-able terrain, it is mainly suitable as an intermediate resort, and for many, the excellent snow record and lovely hotels more than compensate for extra travel time.

When it comes to finding a hotel in Pas de la Casa or an apartment here, there's plenty of choice, and given the type of resort it is, plenty of modern, cool, budget style accommodation which caters specifically for a younger crowd. Pas de la Casa is also a resort which specialises in hotels with a ski and board option, so it's great for those wanting an all inclusive no fuss break. However there are also some classy up market hotels which tend to be elegant and traditional. There are also many different sizes of apartments here, and standards are generally high, with a traditional chalet style. There's snug, romantic studio style apartments for couples, to apartments with several rooms which are popular with groups of friends who come as much for night life as for the snowboarding. Due to the high percentage of singles visiting this resort, there are also many small hotels here, which cater for small groups of friends.
