Beach, beach, beach
I would say Punta Cana is all about the beach, which stretches for 35 km (25 miles). I don't think there's much else there. Many people take excursions to other spectacular locations of the Dominican Republic. I had already seen some of those places. You walk all along the beach close to the water but some resorts reserve large swaths of sand for their guests. There is a constant battle with the ubiquitous seaweed here, with tractors patrolling the sands trying to grind down the sargassum. Mojitos restaurant is great. So is 365 Beach Club next door and Capitan Cook a few steps away.

Took a day excursion to adventure park, amazing experience. Zip line is a must, the lazy river was OK but not impressed. Food and buggies were really fun and afternoon cap was at the waterfall pool

Not as nice as other Caribbean destinations
We've stayed in the Dominican Republic 3 times, along with other Caribbean islands and the Mayan Riviera in Mexico. Definitely lower on the list... for a more luxe feeling vacation, I recommend Turks and Caicos or Tulum.
