What to see or do in and around Girona

  • Tossa de Mar (Girona)

This town is beautiful. With fabulous restaurants and bars.

There are lots of choices of restaurants and bars, varying in prices. You will find many restaurants offering 3-course set menus including, bread, wine, and water. These are great value. There is an Iberian ham shop in the square, and he does amazing rolls for lunch! I highly recommend the sangria, each place varies to the quality! We found a great bar close to the hotel called El Port and the owner does the best sangria, amazing tapas and was a wonderful host. There was a restaurant opposite the hotel called Pano, great food, reasonably priced, with great service. We took the bus to Barcelona and did the tour bus around the city as well as the cable car. It was a beautiful city and would definitely recommend a visit. You can also get a tour bus from Tossa. If we stayed longer, we would have done another boat trip in the opposite direction. The sunbeds on the beach are 7.50, and you get the bed from 9am - 7pm, I would recommend as it is very comfortable. I would recommend water shoes as the beach going into the sea is very stoney. I would love to revisit this place!

  • Lloret de Mar (Girona)

    Beaches nearby

We visited the town for the beaches. Best spots we found at, in order from best to worse: 1. Santa Cristina / Treumal Beach (wide scenic beach, only 1 hotel behind, few restaurants, less coarse sand, not too steep water entry) 2. Cala Boadella (beautiful view of the gardens on the hill, nice spot in the middle with shallow water and rocks, good bar at the back) 3. Playa de Fenals (steep entry to water, coarse sand, wavy, lots of bars, hotels, shops, water activities) 4. Sa Caleta Lloret (side of main town, quite shallow with rocks, lots of restaurants, shops etc. busy place)

  • Lloret de Mar (Girona)

    Lloret de mar

The town is beautiful but only one problematic beach. The water is too deep for young kids. My kids couldn't go into the water because it was too deep.

  • Roses (Girona)

Cittadelle in Roses is a great turistic site.

  • Tossa de Mar (Girona)

Very nice place for all age of people, clean and good for food.

  • L'Estartit (Girona)

I have been going to Estartit for about 30 years, it's a lovely wee town, the beach is amazing, a nice harbour. Just one street of shops but it's got everything you need

  • Girona (Girona)

Girona is Catalonia without crowds of selfie tourists like you.

From Pineda, you can get to Girona by train in 1.5 hours. The city is relatively small, and 1 day is enough for it. In the historical center, it is worth seeing the cathedral, where Game of Thrones was filmed, as well as the defensive fortress, which you can walk along. The wall resembles the Great Wall of China.

  • Roses (Girona)

Roses is a really nice, family-orientated resort, but even as a retired couple we go there often.

  • Lloret de Mar (Girona)

Party holiday town with a 90s vibe

Has its charms but we more liked the neighboring Tossa de Mar
